Be Still My Bleeding Heart

As in, "be still-I'm trying to take a picture"! It's a little windy here!
This year, we have a couple of new varieties of Bleeding Heart (dicentra) beside the old-fashioned (but still hip) bleeding heart.

This is a lovely bleeding heart called- "Gold Heart". As you may or may not be able to tell in this photo, the foliage is bright greenish-gold. This photo is of the new, young growth as it is now.

But just you wait, this is what it will look like in less than a month!
We also have a bleeding heart called "Valentine" (get it?-heart, valentine?). What is unusual about this dicentra is that it's foliage is fringed and a darker green than your average (but still lovely) old-fashioned bleeding heart. The flowers of "Valentine" are more on the red side of pink. It forms a tidy, 2'x2' clump.
And here it is in all it's glory!

And here is the plain, ordinary, just your run-of-the-mill bleeding heart in pink and white.

"Gold Heart" and "Valentine" $10 each
"Regular" $8 each

Pansy Love

Who doesn't love a pansy? Or a viola? They are one of the most cheerful, old-fashioned little blooms you can find. You can plant them in the flower bed for instant charm. Plant them in a pot for a potful of cheer. Or plant them in an old teacup or sugarbowl for a wonderful Mother's Day gift.

We have lots of pansies and many varieties of violas just waiting to brighten someone's day!

Sassy

Meet Sassy, one of our greenhouse chickens. She and her friend, Dot (also know as Bianca), stroll the greenhouse contently clucking and scratching and preening. She especially likes it when we move flats of plants around so she can get a quick snack of an ant or centipede.

When you come to the plant sale on Mother's Day weekend, be sure to say hello to Sassy and Dot. Maybe pat their heads and thank them for the services they provide.
